Peter and the Presidents!

On October 1, 2024, I sent a text to Peter inquiring about his self-motivated challenge to read a biography of the USA Presidents. In light of all the political “noise” I wondered about this goal; you know that I had something in mind for the RFT. I received the following reply “Absolutely! When would be a good time for you? I can do tomorrow night if you are open.” Goodness, scheduling doesn’t typically work that smoothly. And so, we met by zoom the next evening. My questions for Peter were not skillfully crafted, despite channeling my inner Barbara Walters. In truth, I was more excited to spend a bit of time with Peter over learning about the challenges, successes and failures of our presidents. I think that sentiment, in large part, comes from the more recent words, actions, behaviors and movements of so many American citizens, people of power and elected political officials (I won’t call them collectively LEADERS). Upon reflection, I think that is important. History puts a different flavor on the story. Right now, we are living in a burning story and it is hard to think of anything other than the heat of it all.

Tomorrow is election day; I am filled with so many emotions that range in every direction from fear to hope. I am looking at this election as a 65 year old woman that has had a good life but also through the lens of my children and grandchildren. I have worries. Tomorrow is going to happen, the end of the week and year, as well. Things ARE going to change!

Enjoy Peter’s thoughts. (I just loved the way he would mention “We need to double check with David on that.” Yes, David – our historian!) So, I have a CHALLENGE for all of you. May I suggest that if the country elects Kamala Harris as the 47th President of the United States – will you all agree to learn the Presidents song? And YES … and let’s chip in to buy Peter a biography of President Kamala Harris.
