NANCY

NANCY

Nancy was a good baby, but I was nervous.  She was pretty, full face, big eyes. She was named after my sister Nancy. I had a carriage and I’d take her out walking, but I didn’t really know anybody.  We had a few friends, but it wasn't like walking to downtown Auburn where everybody would know you and your baby. I remember that first Christmas down there.  I laid her under the Christmas tree with all the presents just like another present.

Nancy has always been an efficient person.  She took on a lot of responsibility being the oldest of all these children, and did it with great grace.  She never complained about all these brothers and sisters. All my children were athletic, but probably the best of them all was Nancy.  She was way ahead of her time, when girls couldn't play little league. If she could have she would have been very good.
